"It doesn't matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said" —Pollock
Richard Rice is a self taught artist living and working in Irving, Texas. He started drawing as a child and eventually would begin experimenting with painting. He believes the passion for the colors, texture, and smell of paint was instilled at an early age where his mother would buy him various paint-by-number paintings. Richard put down his brush in 2012 and walked away from painting. During his yearly fasting and prayer time in January 2017, he believes he was prompted to begin painting again with a different purpose and greater passion than before. His techniques and use of colors, blending and stacking is something that “just” happened. He doesn't really know how to put into words "why" or "how" the process happens; "it just happens", he says.
Richard believes that art is an expression that comes from deep within to be shared with others. He wants his art to connect with you not just visually, but spiritually as well. For something within the painting to draw you in and speak to you, to inspire thought and self-reflection.
Richard works without any preconceived ideas as to what the finished work is going to look like. He likes the idea of each painting being a journey, ending at a beautiful destination. His paintings are made with lots of vibrant color and textures for depth and life of the piece.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
